Recipe: Homemade Candies             

Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup light corn syrup

1/4 teaspoon flavored extract (e.g., vanilla, peppermint, orange)

Food coloring (optional)

Candy molds or parchment paper

Candy thermometer

Non-stick cooking spray                

Instructions  

Prepare your candy molds or line a baking sheet with parchment paper. If using molds, lightly spray them with non-stick cooking spray.

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, and corn syrup. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves completely.

Insert a candy thermometer into the saucepan and continue cooking the mixture without stirring. Allow the temperature to reach 300°F (150°C), which is the hard crack stage. This will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Be careful as the mixture will be very hot.

Once the syrup reaches the desired temperature, remove the saucepan from heat. Let it sit for a minute or two to allow any bubbles to subside.

Add the flavored extract of your choice to the syrup. You can also add a few drops of food coloring if desired, stirring gently to combine. Be cautious as the mixture may bubble up when adding the extract 

Carefully pour the hot syrup into the prepared candy molds or onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. If using molds, fill them to the top. If using parchment paper, create small circles or shapes with the syrup using a spoon.

Allow the candies to cool completely at room temperature. This will take about 20-30 minutes. If using molds, you can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator for a few minutes.

Once the candies are completely cool and hardened, remove them from the molds or break them apart if using parchment paper.

Store the homemade candies in an airtight container at room temperature. They will stay fresh for several weeks.
